Football News… - Pollard moving to H-back
The Detroit Free Press reports that Lions TE Marcus Pollard’s role is changing for 2006 and will be used more as an H-back instead of a tight end. To accentuate this change, the Lions have Casey FitzSimmons and Sean McHugh ahead of Pollard on their TE depth chart. An H-back plays at fullback, tight end and receiver. “I could be in the backfield. I could be out wide. I could be in the slot,” Pollard said. “That’s the move guy. You never know where he’s going to be.”

Branch not close to returning
The Boston Globe reports that WR Deion Branch and the Patriots aren’t close to agreeing to a new contract extension. Branch has said, however, that he would return to camp if the team promised not to place any free-agency tags on him after the season, which would let him become an unrestricted free agent. Branch has accumulated more than $250,000 in fines for missing training camp ($14,000 per day). It’s also been made known that Branch turned down a $20 million offer from the club that would have kept him with the club through 2009.

Eli Manning looks good vs. K.C.
Eli Manning threw for a touchdown and set up another and the Giants starters and backups dominated in a 17-0 preseason victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night. Manning shredded Kansas City for touchdowns on two of the first three drives, capping the first drive with a 5-yard toss to Amani Toomer and handing off the Brandon Jacobs for a 1-yard plunge on the third series. The other drive probably would have resulted in points had not Jeremy Shockey and Tim Carter been hit with consecutive holding penalties in Chiefs territory.
