DE Michael Strahan said he won’t have any hesitation at all about planting Peyton Manning, even though he knows it might be tough for brother Eli to watch. “Hey, he’s not my brother,” Strahan said. “Peyton’s a good friend, but if I get a chance to really hit him, I’m gonna really hit him. As long as it’s nothing cheap or illegal.”

Rogers has workout with Bucs
The St. Petersburg Times reports that WR Charles Rogers had a workout with the Bucs on Wednesday, but was not offered a contract. “I’m not going to get into all that,” coach Jon Gruden said. “He was the No. 2 pick overall (2003). He’s on the free agent wire right now, and we thought it was important for us to meet him and see how he’s doing physically; just get a feel for him from our own standpoint. We had pretty good grades on him, obviously, coming out. We just took a look into his situation as we have a number of players.”

LB Hill added to injury report
Seahawks starting OLB Leroy Hill was added to the team’s injury list Thursday as questionable for Sunday’s season opener at Detroit. Hill, a third-round draft choice in 2005 from Clemson who set a Seattle rookie record with 7 1/2 sacks, injured his left shoulder early in Wednesday’s full-pads practice. D.D. Lewis would start against the Lions if Hill does not. Lewis, an undrafted free agent signed in 2002, started 12 games last season before Hill’s emergence.

DB Dawkins appreciates D-line
Eagles free safety Brian Dawkins expects to reap the benefits of the Eagles’ improved defensive line this season, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. “It’s no secret — you’ve seen that in the past with the great defenses here in Philly,” Dawkins said. “When those front guys are able to get to the quarterback, it makes the secondary, the back-half people, their jobs a lot easier. It increases the amount of turnovers you get, because of the pressure. There are a lot more jump balls thrown up, quarterbacks trying to get rid of the ball instead of taking the sack.”

Smith misses practice Thursday
Panthers All-Pro WR Steve Smith missed practice again Thursday and remains questionable for the season opener against Atlanta. “Right now it’s day-to-day and when it comes down to Sunday it will be a game-day decision,” coach John Fox said. Smith was limited to 10 practices in the preseason because of a strained left hamstring and an ingrown toenail that required stitches. He did not play in any of Carolina’s four preseason games. Smith then tweaked his right hamstring in practice Tuesday and was held out of Wednesday’s workout.

Titans won’t name starting RB
Titans head coach Jeff Fisher told the media Thursday that he plans to use both Chris Brown and Travis Henry against the Jets in Week 1. He also addressed the status of rookie RB LenDale White, who is questionable for the game with an ankle injury. “LenDale’s been a little hampered on the practice field. We’re definitely going to go with Chris (Brown) and Travis (Henry), and we’ll see how LenDale is later on in the week,” Fisher said.
